iPhone not loud enough? Tell it to the FCC
Thursday, September 20th, 2007

“A group representing people with a hearing loss filed complaints with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission last month, accusing Apple Inc. of not making its iPhone compatible with hearing aids.

The Hearing Loss Association of America, a Bethesda, Md., advocacy group, filed formal complaints with the FCC in August, Brenda Battat, the HLAA’s associate executive director, said in e-mailed comments about Apple’s iPhone. ‘The phone [is] not usable with a hearing aid, either on the microphone or telecoil setting,’ said Battat. ‘Clearly, it was not designed to be hearing aid compatible. It should have been.’ ” Per ComputerWorld

OWC fills an ignored gap with 802.11n
Thursday, September 20th, 2007

OWC (OtherWorldComputing) is offering different wireless 802.11n options for us users who still own Macs that don’t support 802.11n, but 802.11g or older instead. As of yet, Apple hasn’t released any cards for its older Mac line of products, and it most likely it never will. Many of us find it unreasonable because we feel these computers still fall on a spectrum that Apple could support given that these are only swappable cards.

Anyway, per OWC, all these products are fully tested, and should work fine for your specifications. Click here to check out the website.

USB 3.0 coming in 2008, with Optical Connection
Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Intel and partners plan to release the new USB 3.0 connection with fiber-optic links alongside the copper wiring, claiming data transfer rates to be 10 times faster than the current USB 2.0.

The exact release date is unknown, but it should be out in the first half of 2008. However, Intel says to not expect products built with the new specification until 2009-2010 due to the two year lag time from when specifications are generally introduced and the availability of it.

To give you an idea, the current USB 2.0 (which is what your iPod or iPhone uses) transfers at 480 megabits per second, where as USB 3.0 transfer at 4.8 gigabits per second.
