The iPhone is the greatest cellphone there is, no doubt about it. I have had so many cellphones, and this is by far the most advanced, user-friendly phone I’ve owned. There is a big problem I have with it though, reception. AT&T is probably the worst company I have been with as far as reception goes, and to top it off, their customer service is just plain horrible. Raising the bar? I don’t see the bar, how are you supposed to raise it AT&T? Makes absolutely no sense.
I have been calling AT&T for the past weeks telling them how bad their reception is, and they tell me I’m not supposed to be getting any dropped calls in my area. Well guess what AT&T, all lies. There was a point where I wanted to just cancel my iPhone service, and go back to Verizon, which has excellent reception anywhere I’ve been. I remember getting stuck in the desert about 30 miles west of Yuma, CA. I had reception with Verizon then! Anyway, last time I spoke to a manager at AT&T, and he told me he was going to do the best he could to get some techs to check the towers near my area, haven’t heard from him since, and my reception hasn’t gotten any better.

I had a Treo 650 which has terrible reception with Verizon but it is usable most of the time. After researching the ATT web maps of my area I bought an iPhone. I absolutely loved it, when it worked. Problem is I had no, I mean no bars, reception at home. So I returned it to Apple after a week, full refund was easy. ATT was hell, their customer service is soo bad, the worst. I won’t own an iPhone until it’s available on Verizon.

That’s too bad Marty, I had great reception with my Treo 700p that I used to own. That sad thing is, AT&T won’t admit how bad their service is, and they make customers think it’s their fault. One of the things I hated coming out of their mouths was when they would tell me, “this is a MOBILE phone” not intended to act as a phone for your home like a landline.

I agree with everything said about AT&T. I was actually looking into changing services when the iPhone came out. I chose the iPhone over decent signal. The reception was so bad that I almost said ’screw it’ and was about to get rid of it. My friend told me about a signal booster called the Zboost(you can find then at:www.wi-ex.com). Its a wireless box that you install (very easily, might I add) in your home. After plugging it all in my iPhone began to actually work…it was like a Christmas miracle. Before you give up AT&T and the iPhone I would try one of these things. Worked for me.

Wait. So, I’m supposed to drop another $200-400 for a signal booster so my iPhone actually works!! Is the iPhone really worth all that?

To the people who are experiencing reception/network issues….hve you tried another phone (not the iphone) in the same area, ie, at home etc.
I think everyone is so quick to blame it on the network but have we not considered that the issue lies with Apple and though they may have the ability to create a super gadget but their inability to create a acceptable functining cell phone. There is just more and more reading material on the net where consumers are just not impressed with the iphones functionality as a mobile phone but will staunchly defend the device as a gadget.
I live in Scotland and have endless dropped calls and no service bars when using the iphone yet anytime i use the same sim in any other phone i have realy strong signals. Even at the back of the house where reception is not great, i have never dropped calls…However with the iphone its a very frustrating process when trying to make a call (or recieve one) and feel i have to rush the call in fear of being disconnected. However as i said i have no problems with my network on other phones.

Most years I don’t really get my dad anything for fathers day. He didn’t provide anything for me, I mean I paid for my college myself, bought my first car myself, oops this isn’t my appointment with my shrink. I know im slap happy people just tell me what hobbies your fathers have for this coming holiday please please. Actually I just need your opinions on what to get dad for fathers day.

jon, you are exactly right. I have reception issues with the iPhone, and the moment I switch SIM cards to my Nokia N75, I lose all problems.
Honestly, IMO, that is the biggest flaw with this phone. I can overlook the no copy/paste, the web browser that corrects in password fields (that may just be me IDK), the browser that lacks flash (honestly, in today’s world how can you neglect /flash/?), the browser that can’t stay logged into webpages, the fact that I won’t be getting stereo bluetooth in the 3.0 update, as well as missing out on MMS, and the complete lack of memory, but to have a mobile _phone_ that fails as a _phone_…that’s just unacceptable.
Honestly, the iPhone has the /potential/ to be a ridiculously awesome phone, it just isn’t there yet.
OK all you Apple fanboys, flame away.

As for the AT&T hate, maybe in your area, their reception is poor, but in mine, it’s the only provider worth having. Everytime one of my friends says they are switching, they are back to AT&T within the year. Everyone else’s coverage is minimal at best.
